May: Tea & Crumpets

Who hasn’t heard of “tea and crumpets”? We all have, right? But how many have had warm homemade crumpets with creamy butter and homemade jam?  This essentially English comfort food has been around for at least a few hundred years.  Over that time, the crumpet has come to represent coziness, warmth, home and hearthside, the tea table loaded down with nice things… because where crumpets are, tea is usually not far behind… These spongy, cratered little savory cakes are meant to be toasted, slathered with butter and warm jam that melts into the little holes, creating an addictively tasty tea treat. Crispy on the outside and soft and moist in the middle…a crumpet is something special.

As author Margaret Johnson would say, all “you curious armchair travelers, nostalgic food excursionists and inventive home entertainers” take note. On May 14, 2014 at 6:00 PM Chef Krissy is offering a culinary workshop on the art of making these little gems. So, grab your apron and hurry to the tea room to join in the fun.  Bring a friend to share in this unique culinary adventure, and be prepared for hands on participation.  Are your taste buds ready? Nothing surpasses homemade crumpets! A lovely chat time with steaming tea and your own, expertly made, crumpets with butter & homemade jam will conclude the workshop. February: Chef Krissy’s Exclusive Candlelight “Tour de Table”

Une soirée de petites morsures et de grands goûts! It’s an evening of small bites and big flavors! Travel through 6 globe trotting courses of gastronomic bliss, with our chef as your guide. Explore tea paired with foods, like wine, that elevates the palette and delights the senses. Experience the delicate interplay of Dragonwell and smoked salmon tartines with capers, cornichons and a buerre montpellier. Allow Citron Green to guide you through a plate of asparagus three ways, served with sauce hollandaise, sauce maltaise and sauce mousseline.  Salivating yet? We promise this will be a pleasurable and unique experience of food and beverage pairings that will not disappoint, and will not require a cab ride home. Reservations are required for this intimate gathering. The menu is an opulent “chef’s choice”, and seating is limited, so don’t delay! Like savoring fine wine, tasting premium tea with exquisitely prepared food is a joy.

December: Downton Abbey Premier Reception at WGTE

On December 17th, at 7:00 PM, Sweet Shalom Tea Room and WGTE invite you to join us for a sneak peek, of the anxiously awaited Downton Abbey Fourth Season Premier. The first hour of the new season will be shown and the Sweet Shalom tea folks will be there to serve a proper English cream tea. Ahh, a warm flakey scone, lashings of double cream, jam, a cup of fragrant tea and the Crawleys. Bliss! There is no charge for this event.
